25/08/2011
Universal has cancelled the Ouija film project, due to production costs. The project estimates were around $150 million, and to hit profitability the film should gross at least $450 million, including also DVD and consumer products sales. Universal has consider safer to pay Hasbro a $5 million cancellation penalty.
This project was part of a deal signed with the toy maker in 2008, that included films such as G.I. Joe and Battleship, to open next year and with doubts arousing after recent screenings.
Hasbro could sell the project to other companies, as it still controls the movie rights. Universal is still developing two films based in Hasbro games and toys: Candyland and Stretch Armstrong.
