Retailer's sales rise more than expected

Consumer behaviour could be threatened by oil prices

US Retailer's sales rose 4.2% in February, an increase 0.6 points stronger than expected. Snowstorms in January delayed some shopping that had to be done later, and the higher consumer confidence also meant higher sales.

The markets expect a not so good behaviour for the following weeks, as oil prices are rising due to political conflicts in Northern Africa and Middle East. Oil prices settled last week at their highest level since August 2008.

Some retailers also expect a slight decline in sales due to the late Easter holidays and because of growing food prices.
