"The main characteristic of the Spanish licensing market is the homogeneity and the low variety of products"

Meritxell Gratacós, director of Luk International

31/05/2011

Meritxell Gratacós is the director of Luk Internacional, the biggest independent company in Spain and Portugal focused in the management of audiovisual contents for kids and teens. The company started business 31 years ago as a cinema distributor, but later focused on the TV market, and also extended its activity to licensing, rights management and promotions services. The company will be present in the Licensing Forum organised by Licencias Actualidad.

Luk started business as an audiovisual contents distributor, and went into licensing in 2000. This was the natural evolution of your activities?

Yes, but only for properties with an adequate number of episodes. This activity expansion started with the TV series Doraemon, a show that is still in production and counts with great popularity among fans.

Which are the most specific characteristics of the Spanish licensing market?

The main current characteristic of the Spanish licensing market is the homogeneity and the low variety of products seen in the points of sale.

What are Luk Internacional projects for 2011?

We aim to continue consolidating and taking care of the properties we manage within the licensing business.

Will you continue your expansion with properties outside the audiovisual industry, as you already did with Roberta Zignone?

Yes, if we considerate it appropriate. We will be careful and select thoroughly brands with their own singularities.
