BBC to move al kids programming to its digital channels
BBC1 and BBC2 will no longer broadcast children's shows
24/05/2012
BBC1 and BBC2 will drop their children’s programming blocks and all this kids content will migrate to digital channels CBBC and CBeebies. This decision is part of the BBC’s digital broadcasting strategy and plan to cut 20% of all costs by 2017.
The BBC said that viewing of children's programming on BBC1 and BBC2 was low and had fallen significantly over recent years. The broadcaster will maintain the level of investment in children's programming, meaning that in fact the proportion of the licence fee spent on children's shows would increase. The firm still considers this programming a priority.
Budget cuts will also see fewer entertainment shows in all BBC channels, more repeats and reduced programming budgets for BBC3 and BBC4.
