AIJU offers a common iconography for the toy sector
Manufacturers can use this proposal that has been tested among 2,700 families
23/05/2012
With the aim of assisting toy manufacturers and retailers, the technological toy institute AIJU has developed a common iconography for the toy industry, Icontoys. AIJU, in collaboration with various international associations, will carry out a communication programme to inform society about the existence of these 30 icons and their meaning. The institute also reminds manufacturers that they can start using this unified and standardized iconography.
This system was developed and adapted following international research that gathered opinions of more than 2,700 families in Europe and in the USA, and after taking into account that more than 400 different icons are being used in the toy industry. AIJU used the information of this research to develop a proposal that was introduced in the Nuremberg toy fair. The conclusions of this research are available in AIJU's website (pdf).
The proposed versions of icons provide information about features that both consumers and businesses consider more relevant: age, technical aspects (sound, the use of batteries...), and educational characteristics, among others.
This project of AIJU counts with the full support of the Spanish Association of Toy Manufacturers (AEFJ) and funds from regional, national, and European governments.
