The company will not buy materials from companies related to deforestation
06/10/2011
Toymaker Mattel has strengthened its environmental policy, with the aim of increasing the use of recycled material in their packaging, or of paper fiber provided by suppliers not linked to deforestation. Mattel will not purchase products from companies who participated in the conversion of forest land in plantations for paper production.
The company has set the following objectives in this regard: by the end of 2011, 70% of paper and cardboard packaging will manufactured from recycled or sustainable materials; this percentage will reach 85% by the end of 2015; the company will opt for paper products certified by the Forest Steward Council, if possible.
