Retail sales totaling five months upwards in Spain
They increased by 4.2% in January compared with the same month in 2014

Retail sales at constant prices increased by 4.2% in January in Spain compared with the same month in 2014, what means an upward trend during five consecutive months, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
In the first month of the year, marked by the end of the Christmas season and the start of sales, employment in the sector increased by 0.6% and totaled nine months in positive.
With these figures, retail sector continues the improvement began in 2014, the year in which the sector's turnover ended the streak of six consecutive years down that began in 2008, coinciding with the outbreak of the crisis.
By type of establishment, small businesses began 2015 with an increase in sales of 1%, whereas in large chains they increased by 6%. In large commercial areas, the increase was 4.9% and in small chains, 1.2%. Retail sales grew in all regions.
