Retailing reaches its highest level in the eurozone

The volume of retail trade in the European Union as a whole has soared 3.5% year-on-year

According to the latest data published by the Eurostat community statistical body, retail sales in the euro area increased by 2.4% in October compared to the same month last year; while in monthly terms it has grown by 1.1%, its highest since August 2014. In this way, the volume of retail trade in the European Union as a whole has soared 3.5% year-on-year, with a growth of 1.2% compared to September.

Compared with October 2015, the highest increases are Luxembourg (+ 16%), ahead of Romania and Slovenia (+ 8.7% in both cases) and Lithuania (+ 8.3%), while only falls in Belgium (-1.9%). However, Eurostat reports that the largest monthly increase in retail sales in October was in Slovenia (+ 3.7%), ahead of Luxembourg (+ 2.9%) and Germany (+2, (-0.5%), Ireland (-0.4%), Slovakia (-0.2%), Slovakia (-0.4%), Slovakia (-0.4%), %) and Spain (-0.1%).
