Universal is preparing a live action film based on the Monster High Mattel dolls, produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, creators of the series Gossip Girl and The OC.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Schwartz and Savage already worked on a musical project based on this line of dolls, which would have coincided with its release in 2010. The script, dismissed at the time, will be the starting point for the film, even though it will not be a musical.
The publication adds that these dolls have recorded a revenue of $1.4 billion since they were launched, including consumer products sales. This figure is $100 million higher than sales by Barbie in the same period .
Mattel created Playground Productions in October, am in house studio that will focus on producing films, television shows, web series, events, and games, plus all multiplatform contents and actions. This company will act as executive producer for the film.
