Warner Bros. and Mattel Renew their DC Comics Toy Deal

Both companies have been working together for the last 15 years

13/06/2014

Warner Bros. Consumer Products has extended its relationship with Mattel. This new agreement grants the toy maker rights to continue as master toy licensee or the universe of DC Comics characters including Batman, Superman, The Flash, and The Joker, among others.

The multi-year extension includes Mattel's rights to produce toys based on future DC Comics films, animation and television projects that are developed and produced during the term of the agreement. Mattel is set to develop toy lines for two of Warner Bros.' theatrical releases: the summer 2016 release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the recently announced Justice League film, to follow. And also for the TV series Gotham, Constantine, The Flash, and iZOMBIE, which will all debut during the 2014-15 television season.

Both companies have been working together for the last 15 years, creating many action figures, vehicles and role play accessories, including Fisher-Price DC Super Friends Imaginext line, and the multiple DC Comics Super Heroes action figure lines, as well as vintage Batman products targeting an adult audience.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. generates around $6 billion from licensing deals each year.
