Nowadays is not enough with just one movie, or even a trilogy - franchises become universes including spin-offs and series, with the aim of prolonging the life of brands and boosting their revenues.
The latest property to join this trend is Spider-Man: not only the second part of the new trilogy is released in the spring of this year, but Sony Pictures also announced films based on characters from the comics - the Sinister Six and Venom, a villain who also appeared in the third instalment of the trilogy directed by Sam Raimi.
Sony and Marvel will count for these projects with screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard, looking for these movies to have a unified tone. In fact, Kurtzman, Orci, and Pinkner will also be the authors of the third film in the Spider-Man series, with planned release in June 2016.
Kurtzman is expected to direct the movie about Venom, as well as writing it with Orci and Solomon, while Goddard will direct the film about the Sinister Six, with script written by him and Pinkner.
