Rogue One triumphs in worldwide box offices

The last Star Wars’ movie collects 278 million euros in its global premiere

23/12/2016

The last call of the saga by George Lucas, Rogue One: a Star Wars story, has outpaced the expectation and collected 278 million euros globally only during the weekend of its international premiere. In the United States, during its three first days the movie had already reached 155 million dollar, situating itself as the best second premiere in December and being only leaded by Star Wars VII: the force awakens, that last year got 226 million dollar only during a weekend and that ended being the most box office earner of the US history.

This way, the most waited for spin off of the year has got to put the icing on the cake of the Disney 2016 premieres, keeping in mind that it will also remain a few days more in the global billboards. Moreover, the movie has surpassed the expectation of the producer because it is an independent movie to the central Star Wars saga in which even characters are different, and Disney was not waiting for a so awesome acceptation by the public. In a year and also in December 15, cinemas will prepare to receive a new flood of fans with the premiere of the episode VIII of the main saga. From the point of view of Star Wars as a brand, with the success of its last premiere Disney will get to capture 25% of the US cinematographic market in 2016, so the company headed by Bob Iger will obtain a quarter part of the whole collected this year thanks to the movie, according to data from Boxofficemojo.
